Titus Andronicus
Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Malcolm Steele
Famed English Poet T.S. Eliot labelled it "silly". Director Malcolm Steele relates that such criticism of the piece "has only, over the years, strengthened my resolve to rise to the challenge of mounting a production - a challenge I thank N@sh for issuing to me."
And in 2005, Titus, as the cast and crew affectionately refer to the production, IS a play for now - a story that demands recognition for its contemporary relevance. After all, what better time would suit such an overtly political play revolving around mutilations, cannibalism, rape, murder and beheadings than one in which everyday citizens can witness acts of political and religious terrorism such as bombings, kidnappings, rapes, mutilations and politically motivated suicides day in and day out, "in their own living rooms"?
